In this week’s #ICYMI we look at the latest change from Facebook that will benefit advertisers as well as Instagram’s improved embedded photo quality.
1. Facebook is sharing your location with advertisers — with your permission of course.
Social media advertising is a growing part of the marketer’s toolkit. Being aware of platform changes and updates to advertising algorithms is essential to understanding how to leverage these tools for your brand. With that in mind, on October 7 Facebook announced its Local Awareness ads are now available for all advertisers. Local Awareness ads have been used by Facebook since 2012, but now that they’re widely available more businesses can take advantage of them.
How do Local Awareness ads work?
When you’re creating an ad, you tell Facebook the area you want to reach by inputting your company’s address. Facebook will get your ad to as many people as possible in the area around your business. The ad features a photo, message and even directions to help customers find you.

2. Instagram has improved the way embedded photos look on the web.
Embedded Instagram photos will now be bigger and cleaner when viewed on the web, with a narrower bezel around the frame and a Follow button above the image.
This is great for brands, such as fashion retailers and lifestyle blogs, as photos will be of higher quality when embedded in other social networks and viewed on the web.
The addition of the Follow button above the photo will make it easier for users to follow your company’s Instagram account. For example, if someone was already following your business on Twitter and they clicked on your embedded photo, they could click to follow you on Instagram.
