We’re back with a great update from social media! In this edition of #ICYMI we look at an update to Facebook promotional posts that took effect in January.
Facebook has brought in new volume and content controls for promotional posts, so people see more of what they want from the pages they like. What this means is that Facebook will restrict page content from users’ newsfeeds that it deems overly promotional.
According to Facebook’s survey there are consistent traits that make these posts feel too promotional:
• Posts that solely push people to buy a product of install and app.
• Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context.
• Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads.
This means that as a business you have to be careful about how you write your Facebook messages. This also gives you the opportunity to create posts that are more interactive with your fans. People are more likely to engage with your brand when the message is sincere and fun, not just “buy our product now!”
