The world of social media is constantly changing. Brands need to stay up to speed on the latest platform and policy updates to ensure they are using their social media channels accurately and effectively. This post marks the start of our “In Case You Missed It” series, aimed at keeping you in the loop on need-to-know changes to help you successfully manage your brand’s social strategy.
From privacy changes, to filtering options, to app updates, here’s what you may have missed recently:
1. YouTube announced it is working on creating a more efficient experience for content creators by enhancing its mobile app. The goal is to allow brands to effectively manage channels on the go, no longer restricting them to laptop or desktop.
2. Twitter has introduced a new ‘mute’ feature that allows users to filter their feeds to minimize clutter from users they may not want to delete, but want to hear less from. This new feature is great for allowing users to customize their feeds to ensure they get the information they want, but could be a challenge for brands who don’t know they’ve been ‘muted’.
Tip: Don’t want to be put on mute? Ensure you’re pushing out relevant, important, tweet-worthy content. Think quality versus quantity.
3. Twitter’s platform is continuing to expand. eMarketer released statistics projecting a 24 per cent growth in users in 2014. The overall reach of Twitter is projected to grow immensely so if you want to be heard, get tweeting!
4. Facebook is under constant pressure to tighten its privacy settings and as of April 30 it began to address complaints by introducing new privacy changes. These included the infamous privacy dinosaur, an anonymous login and new default privacy settings. Facebook is also introducing a new mobile app that uses device microphones to listen to a user’s environment and determine where and what they are doing. The app, described as the ‘Shazam’ of Facebook, aims to limit a person’s time spent drafting a status update by providing an immediate update to share. The app will launch in the United States before making its way to Canada. Stay tuned…
